Class Description
12-Week Personal Fitness Program

The YMCA Personal Fitness Program is a national fitness program dedicated to helping 'ready-to-be-fit' individuals move toward the behavior and mind-set of a consistent exerciser. If you are beginning your exercise routine at the Shiawassee Family YMCA and need a little push to get started, this program is perfect for you! This program allows you one consultation with a certified fitness professional per four weeks within twelve weeks for a total of four (4) sessions, where you will determine your motivation, goals, and learn new training techniques and routines... all in conjunction with keeping a daily exercise log. On top of your one-on-one consultation, a certified fitness trainer will be on duty in the fitness center during selected hours. Back to Basics - Feel the need to get back in shape? Conquer your fitness goals by starting out at a beginner level. This non-impact class is designed to teach and keep movements simple but effective. Various exercise equipment will be used to give you the confidence, energy and strength to take it to the next level.

Boot Camp - This class incorporates high-energy movements within specified time intervals and is perfect for people of all levels of fitness. Abdominal work included.

Bosu - With the use of the Bosu (a dome on one side and a platform on the other), this energetic and cardio class will change up your existing routine.

Bosu/Ball Fusion - This combination class will improve your core, stability, posture and endurance. The movements are low impact to non-impact. The Bosu is versatile enough to provide a fun and effective workout for all fitness levels. The stability ball will emphasize core and strength training.

Butt and Gut - This class is designed to utilize a variety of exercises specific for these two areas.

Cardio Buffet - A great cardio class that mixes things up to keep you moving. From cardio kick to basic low impact aerobics, the variety will keep you pumped.
Abdominal Work Included.

Cycle 101 - Using Reebok Cycles, bike you way to fitness. All levels of fitness are encouraged to enjoy the ride and get fit while doing it.

Get on the Ball - Have a ball and get a great workout. The Stability ball is used throughout the entire class. Engage in a short cardiovascular routine followed by weight bearing exercise performed on the ball. Don't wait to Get on the Ball!

Muscle Mania - Strength training is the main event. Your muscles will be challenged using weights and non-impact moves. This class is for persons of all fitness levels.
Abdominal Work Included.

Pilates - This is a class that emphasizes a combination of exercise, core conditioning, inner strength and mind. Pilates base deep muscle conditioning and toning exercises within unique system of stretching and strengthening movements. Appropriate for all fitness levels.

Tai Chi for Health - An effective and safe exercise program to help promote good health, especially for those with join and back pain. It is based on the gentle 12-movement Sun style of Tai Chi. Great exercise for flexibility, muscle strength, heart/lung function, balance, blood pressure and more!

Y's Body Shop - This co-ed group exercise class makes it fun to keep in shape. Although people of all fitness levels will find this class to be beneficial, this class uses low-impact exercise, and is designed with the older adult in mind. Warm-up and cool-down are included.

Yogalates - Fusing the two disciplines of Yoga and Pilates. Gain core strength while improving your posture, form and flexibility. Combination moves will strengthen upper and lower body. Open to all fitness levels.

Zumba - Put some salsa and spice back into your fitness routine. The latin dance moves will challenge your hips and abdominals while getting a great workout.
