For over 40 years, the Shiawassee Family YMCA has offered soccer to area youths, and Owosso Rotary Club has been a partner for nearly that long. Soccer is a great way for kids to make new friends, get exercise and increase confidence. Like anything though, there is a cost that many participants find difficult to pay. Even when a family qualifies for assistance and can cover the discounted participation fee, they may still struggle with transportation to practices, shin guards, shoes or purchasing a soccer ball so their child can practice at home.
The YMCA makes every effort to offer financial assistance to as many families as possible but sometimes they may need more help than we can give. Plus, every time someone pays a discounted rate, it cuts into our budget for new supplies so we often operate with limited or old equipment.
